South County Museum’s 38th Annual Folk Art Quilt Show features quilts created by regional quilters, displayed in the museum’s main exhibition hall.

Each day at 11am, there will be a collaborative lecture, given by Museum Director Rebecca Kelly and research fellow Emma Manning, titled, What Quilts Reveal: Stories of Nineteenth-Century Printed Textiles and Technology. A treasured antique quilt from the Museum’s collection will serve as a lens to consider historic techniques for creating printed textiles. The lecture is included with admission.

The show will also feature the Museum’s recently launched community quilt project “The Colors of Canonchet”. The Museum has begun a year-long process of naturally dyeing fabrics for quilting, taking inspiration from the colors seen around our beautiful 8-acre campus. Come and see the colors of spring and summer and help us plan for the fall and winter. We are asking for input about what type of quilt we should make, the size, block style, design ideas, and quilting techniques are all up for discussion. Come and join the fun and sign-up to participate further as we will start our winter quilting club early in 2025.

Handicap accessible. There is a ramp and 2 handicap parking spots located at the main entrance of the exhibition hall.

Parking: The museum has a large gravel parking area for visitors.

Food: Visitors are welcome to picnic on the grounds, and the surrounding town of Narragansett offers a number of restaurants and coffee shops.
